BEDROOM 2 (MASTER SUITE)

Bedroom number 2 is what we call the master bedroom. To be honest im not exactly why we chose this bedroom when we moved in. With the amount of choices that we had it’s a wonder we did chose this wall. Let me take you into our room.
This bedroom has got a door on the Northern and Western walls which both lead onto verandas outside. The bedroom has also got windows that cover both the Southern and Eastern walls. The windows against the Eastern wall looks out to the lagoon which unfortunately is empty at the moment but when it’s full it’s the most divine thing to see.
When we first moved into the room – like the rest of the house – it was pretty run down, the walls were green like the rest of the house. We painted the walls a bright white. We chose to paint the house white to brighten the rooms up, the way the house is set up it makes the rooms and inside quite dark.
We went ahead and sanded the floors back – this room was the WORST room to sand back. They had used tar on the floors so it took days to get it sanded back. We went with the water base floor shine again just because we like that it doesn’t have a chemical smell and that it doesn’t   change the original colour of the floors.

My husband and I had furniture in our room that was my sisters from years ago, it was getting pretty bad so we decided to buy new furniture. I found this white suite that I fell in love with and thought that it would fit the house absolutely perfect!

I decided to go with navy as the bold colour in our bedroom, I thought that it would be the perfect blend with white. I wanted to  keep it bare and minimal.

I hope you enjoyed this room tour.

ROOM ONE

Bedroom ONE; The Nursery

The Nursery is the only bedroom in which you can get in and out of from inside. The main nursery door enters into the open lounge room and the second door opens up onto a open plan veranda which then leads to bedroom #2 which we use at the master bedroom.

The nursery is a funny room, the Western wall had windows which the first owners closed in, however they left the curtains up to hide the mismatched wood haha. The southern wall holds three sets of double windows and the Eastern wall has one set of double windows and the door that leads onto the veranda and the northern wall holds the door that leads into the lounge room.

The walls were a light green colour that I’m sure was trendy back in the day but I couldn’t stand it. We painted the walls pure white and they turned out beautiful.

We then went in and sanded the floors back with a rough grit and then went back over to smooth it out with a finer grit – once we had finally got it all back to the original colour we put a water based polish over it to seal it.

When it came to decorate the nursery I kept it pretty simple as we didn’t know the sex of the baby.

I love how well this room turned out. In every room I have tried to ensure that I keep in a country style to incorporate the house and keep the history within the home.

Homestead

Hi everyone, we have been busy here renovating our home. We have lived here in our house for 3 and a half years now and our dream is becoming a reality.

When we first moved into our home it was a shamble, it was dirty and a wreck. No three years later we are getting work done.

First step: Gapping and painting the walls and re roofing the homestead...
As you can imagine this was a massive job and it took a long time for it to come together, below are some photos before and after of the house. It took about a month to complete the painting. We got professionals in to re roof the house though.

We went through boxes and boxes of gap fill, tubs beyond tubs of paint, blood sweat a tears. The paint was led paint so as you can imagine we were all a little nutty while getting the job done. The sanding of the house was the worst, we would be covered in the dust not just our bodies, it was up our noses and in our noses. Not to mention the COPIOUS amount that ended up inside of the house; I was dusting and vacuuming for months.

Stay tuned to see the inside of this gorgeous old homestead on 'Myall Park' revamped.

Cook, live, love

I love cooking, I find it relaxing. When I am in the kitchen I am happy, creative and free. I love being able to look at a recipe and twist to how it suits me. Cooking and baking has this way of putting me in the best possible mood - I love the way that food brings people together.

I always look at cooking and baking as a way of socializing. The way you spend hours in the kitchen creating and then being able to nourish people once you are done. I love watching my husbands face when he is eating something I have made for him, I love watching my son get food all over his face from enjoying it so much that he cant take a breath. I love that when people come over you can offer them a piece a cake and suddenly their day is made.

Food is such a massive part of our lives, we need food to live and it just happens that it makes for the best conversation starters. The sad part of our generation though is that people now like to judge you for what you eat. I began to get sucked into this, I use to care what others thought of me when I ate; what if they were judging me about how much I eat, and what I eat. I began to let this consume me, I worried constantly about what people thought of me. When I fell pregnant with my second baby MacGregor all I was worried about was not putting on weight throughout my pregnancy and then once I had had him I was only concerned about getting rid of my baby weight. So much so that I started dieting at 6 weeks post partum, I jumped straight into it, I cut right back on food and I ended up in hospital with lactation ketoacidosis.
This woke me up! It was a sure punch in the gut! I cam home from hospital and took a long hard at myself and I decided to jump straight into the kitchen and start making recipes and creating meals.

So this brings me to my point, I am going to start sharing my recipes with you to enjoy and to share with your family friends! ** Note that all recipes can be modified to suit your needs!**

Take a risk and accept the change

I wasn't always from Glenmorgan, I was brought up in a small town 15 minutes outside of Toowoomba called Flagstone Creek. Flagstone Creek was home to me for 20 years and I could never see myself leaving.

A few week prior to my wedding my now husband Ben got offered a job here in Glenmorgan. He took me for a drive out here and when I saw the place that we were going to live in and how far away it was from my family I was scared. I didn't want to move and have to start a whole new life, meeting new people and getting use to a completely different area.

Despite all of my fears we took the job. We got married and two weeks later we made the move. I hated it out here, it was so lonely, the house way scary and I hated being so far from everyone. I spent a lot of time regretting the decision. 4 months later I was lucky enough to land a job in the local hospital as a nurse (45 minutes) away. Once I started working and started meeting local people I started to enjoy it a lot more.

I learnt so much moving out here, for one, I learnt that change can be good, its scary and daunting but all at the same time its good for the soul. Starting fresh and making a new life with my husband as soon as we got married was probably the best thing we could have done, we grew to trust one another and learnt to rely on only eachother.

I am now at the point in my life where I am content, I love where we live, I love the quietness but I also love the social aspect that such a small town such as Glenmorgan has.

My point to this blog is to accept change, take the chance and risk it all.

Do something you love

I have recently had my second child. A sweet little brother for my other son Billy. I have found that since having my second child I haven't yet been able to find the balance between being a Mum, doing the house work and book work aswell as doing the things I most enjoy. I love being outside with our animals, pottering in our large yard doing the odd fixit job.

This week I decided to wake up and do a bit of a list of goals that I wanted to achieve this week and low and behold it is actually working. Lists are starting to play a big role in my life to keep it in tact and order. I love being organised and I have found that this form of organisation always seems to work.

Yesterday I scattered three wheel barrow loads of manure onto our lawn and the joy I had doing work outside was so good. There is just something so peaceful about doing jobs outside rather than being cooped up in the house all day.

I have decided that my housework is always going to be there and that it will always wait for me so I need to enjoy the time with my boys and being outside and enjoying the peace of doing what I love. I think when you become a Mother there are some things that you need to do and taking time for yourself every now and then is key! I went from working a full time job and constantly socializing and visiting my family to being a stay at home with a little bit more restriction on where I went and what I did.

This week I challenge you to do something you love!
